Coventry City Issue Four Word Response To Mark Robins Decision

Coventry City have responded to Coventry University’s decision to award Mark Robins an Honorary Doctorate.

Robins has departed Coventry City after almost eight years in charge, after being sacked by club owner Doug King. But the popular 54-year-old will still be recognised at a ceremony at Coventry Cathedral later this week where he will become an Honorary Doctor of Administration.

It is reward for his achievements on the pitch with the Sky Blues, leading the club from League Two to the Championship and almost winning an incredible promotion to the Premier League last year as Coventry lost to Luton Town on penalties in the Championship play-offs final at Wembley. Robins also guided City to the FA Cup semi-finals last season in which they gave Manchester United an almighty scare before losing on penalties.

“Mark’s dedication to Coventry was not confined to the football club alone as he has been involved in various community programmes aimed at strengthening the bond between the club, supporters and the city,” Coventry University said. “These included supporter Q&A sessions and charity events, as well as visiting schools and community programmes to interact with members of the local area and fans, show his support and to share his experiences and insights about football and life.”

Professor John Latham CBE, Vice-Chancellor of Coventry University, said: “Mark Robins has played a crucial role in helping Coventry City come out of a dark few years and helped restore pride and belief among the fan base.
