Cleveland Browns have announced signing of defensive lineman end Sam Kamara.
The Cleveland Browns have announced the signing of defensive lineman Sam Kamara. The 26-year old veteran spent last season on the team’s practice squad for much of the season, but appeared in two games when team suffered multiple injuries.
Kamara is a 6′ tall base end that weighs between 270 and 280 pounds. He can also kick inside to rush on run downs, taking advantage of his pad level to shoot gaps and cause problems. Kamara was an exclusive rights free agent, now rejoining an edge group that includes Myles Garrett, Za’Darius Smith, Ogbonnia Okoronkwo, Alex Wright, Isaiah McGuire, Isaiah Thomas and Lonnie Phelps.
Kamara will compete for a roster spot, but unless the Browns suffer a series of injuries, his best case scenario is to once again find a spot on the practice squad. However, it’s worth noting that since the Browns will likely have a fair amount of days off from practice for Garrett and Smith during the summer, Kamara will have his chances to get reps.
The Browns also announced they have released offensive guard Drew Forbes with a failed physical. Forbes, the 189th pick of the 2019 NFL Draft, was an athletically gifted player who played collegiately at Southern Missouri State. Dubbed Prospect X by Sports Illustrated, he was someone who had an NFL body and strength, but played against low level competition. Sadly for Forbes, his career has been marred by injuries including a season-ending knee injury in 2021.
Forbes also opted out of the 2020 season due to concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on the designation, Forbes is not ready to participate and the team is moving on for the time being. The release of Forbes further leaves the Browns depleted on the interior of the offensive line. They currently only have Joel Bitonio, Wyatt Teller, Michael Dunn and former 2022 seventh-round pick Dawson Deaton listed at the position. Hakeem Adeniji, who was signed as a free agent has the ability to potentially contribute at guard or tackle. The Browns also only currently have two centers with Ethan Pocic and Luke Wypler. With the draft a little over a week away, this is an area in the roster Browns general manager Andrew Berry could look look to bolster.
This move comes Monday as the Browns are starting to show up to participate in Organized Team Activities, also known as OTAs. There will be players available to speak to the media on Tuesday and Andrew Berry will have a press conference this week as well.
