George Lawler: Castleford Tigers prop in hospital with brain bleed - BBC Sport

Castleford Tigers player, George Lawler, suffered a significant health scare earlier in the 2024 season. Lawler, who signed for the Tigers from Hull KR in 2022, was admitted to hospital in April, having had a seizure.
Lawler remained in hospital under observation, before being diagnosed with a small bleed on the brain. At the time of his hospitalisation, Lawler was said to be “awake and well”, according to a report in the BBC, with the Tigers requesting that Lawler’s family’s privacy be respected.
Speaking to BBC West Yorkshire Sport at the end of May, Tigers’ boss, Craig Lingard gave a positive update on Lawler’s condition, explaining that Lawler was nearing a return to full training after receiving the all-clear from the medical team to return to full contact training.
Now, Lawler has taken the next step towards a return to the Castleford Tigers’ first-team squad, by achieving a major landmark in his recovery.
George Lawler took the next step towards a first-team return today by appearing for the Castleford Tigers’ reserve side. Lawler was named in a strong Tigers’ side for their reserve team fixture against the Bradford Bulls, appearing in the front row alongside Muizz Mustafa.
Castleford will be hoping that Lawler has come through the game unscathed as he continues to build towards a return to first-team action. Lawler played as the Tigers reserves held off a late Bradford fightback to win 42-16.
Lawler has been a regular in the Castleford side since joining from KR in 2022. He played 23 games in the 2022 season, scoring once before making 21 appearances in 2023, also scoring one try last season as the Tigers battled local rivals, Wakefield Trinity, at the bottom of the table.
Before suffering his injury, Lawler had been a key part of Castleford’s side early in the season. He played in the Tigers’ opening six Super League games, contributing one try assist against the Salford Red Devils, and making 417 metres in total.
