Jayden Meghoma, a full-back from Southampton, has officially signed a four-year contract with Brentford, with an option for the club to extend the deal by an additional two years.
Meghoma becomes Brentford’s fifth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Igor Thiago, Fábio Carvalho, Sepp van den Berg, and Gustavo Nunes.
Brentford’s head coach, Thomas Frank, expressed his excitement about the new signing.
“I’m very pleased with this signing,” Frank said. “Jayden is an England youth international and one of the biggest left-back talents this country has.”
Frank highlighted Meghoma’s potential, both offensively and defensively.
“I like Jayden’s offensive ability – he is quick, has good one-on-one skill and can cross – and he has good defensive ability as well. He is adaptable and can play outside or inside full-back,” he explained.
“Jayden is a player we have big belief in. He can help us this season and in the future.”
The 18-year-old defender made his first professional move to Southampton in July 2023 and debuted for the first team a month later in a Carabao Cup match against Gillingham. Meghoma featured in three additional games for Southampton last season, all in the Emirates FA Cup.
Internationally, Meghoma has represented England up to the under-18 level.
Earlier this year, he was part of the England squad that won the Pinatar Super Cup in Spain.
He has also been called up to England’s under-19 team for upcoming international fixtures against Italy, Croatia, and Germany.
