Tottenham Hotspur putting preparations in place to attack the summer transfer window, as they look to rebuild the squad under incoming boss Thomas Frank.
Thomas Frank is on the brink of joining Spurs, succeeding Ange Postecoglou at the helm. He has spent over seven years at Brentford and has done extremely well to establish them as a Premier League entity since their promotion three summers ago. With the Danish tactician set to take the reins at White Hart Lane, speculation is rising over which of his reliable Brentford players could follow him across the capital.
After links with Brentford stars Bryan Mbeumo, Nathan Collins and Mikkel Damsgaard, it is not surprising that another player from the Bees’ squad has emerged on the radar of Spurs. The player is Christian Norgaard.
Christian Norgaard has been a great servant for Brentford since arriving from Fiorentina in the summer of 2019. He has racked up close to 200 appearances for the West London outfit, scoring 13 goals. He was due to become a free agent at the end of the season but the experienced defensive midfielder penned a two-year extension back in March to prolong his stay at the Gtech Community Stadium until 2027.
However, should Tottenham come calling, an exclusive report from GIVEMESPORT claims Brentford will not sanction the departure of Christian Norgaard. They are not prepared to allow the Denmark international to reunite with Thomas Frank at the Hotspur Way, thereby, complicating matters for Spurs ahead of possibly heading to the negotiating table.
Frank shares a strong relationship with Norgaard, having been his assistant coach in the Denmark youth side and head coach at Brondby before managing him at Brentford for six seasons.
A cultured defensive midfielder with solid Premier League experience, the Copenhagen native is someone who could become a squad rotational option at Tottenham. At 31, there is still a lot of gas left in the Brentford man’s tank, so it would not shock many if Frank seeks to reunite with him at Spurs.
As a result, the Bees are bracing themselves for potential offers for Norgaard’s signature ahead of the transfer window reopening next week, adds the report. However, there is confidence within the West London club’s camp that Tottenham will not be prepared to spend a big fee for a player of the Danish midfielder’s age even if Frank makes him one of his summer’s top targets upon his arrival in North London.
Truth be told, if Spurs are looking to move on Yves Bissouma, they’d need someone younger, more dynamic to replace him in the squad. At 31, Norgaard, in that regard, doesn’t fit the bill. Plus, there’s reluctance from Brentford to part ways with their star midfielder having only extended his contract until 2027, so it’d be better for Daniel Levy to recruit a younger player to bolster our squad’s midfield department.
