Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa is said to be “optimistic” about making a quick recovery from a hamstring injury.
Konsa suffered the injury in Villa’s last match before the international break, as they drew 0-0 with Manchester United at Villa Park in the Premier League on Sunday. He had been called up to the England squad, but was forced to withdraw.
Speaking about the injury after the final whistle, Villa boss Unai Emery said: “I don’t know if it’s a big or small injury”. And in the aftermath of the United game, Konsa posted a photo of himself with Emi Martinez as he sat up on the pitch awaiting treatment, accompanied with a flexing muscle emoji.
The Telegraph now reports Konsa believes he can make a swift return to action after the international break. It is said that, barring any setbacks in his rehabilitation, he hopes to be back in only one or two weeks, which would be a huge boost for Emery and Villa.
It is understood, at this stage, to be unclear if Konsa will be fit in time for Villa’s first match after the international break, against Fulham at Craven Cottage on October 19. But he is said to have not ruled out being ready for Villa’s next match in the Champions League against Bologna at Villa Park on October 22, as they look to build on victories over Young Boys and Bayern Munich in their opening two matches.
