Norwich City Loan Star Reveals His Best Playing Position

Norwich City loan star Callum Doyle says centre-back is his preferred position, but he’s happy to help out on the left side of defence.

The Manchester City prospect was brought in to give head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup options in both areas, with only one other natural choice in either.

He’s featured at left-back and centre-back in meetings with Stevenage and Blackburn Rovers last week, with debate continuing among fans as to where he’s at his best.

The 20-year-old feels comfortable interchanging, however, even if he’d ideally stay central.

“I’ve been playing that left-back position that comes inside,” he said, speaking to The Pink Un. “But also I do like playing centre-back, which is good. I do have a few positions that I play.

“I do like centre-back because you get more of the ball, and I can show what I can do on the ball. But if the manager wants me to play left-back or another position, I’ll happily play it.

“Especially the way we play, we want to break lines, get the scoring players on the ball. I think that position is difficult, but once you’ve got it, it’s a good position to have in a game.”

Doyle already has two promotions on his CV with Sunderland and Leicester, as well as a play-off final with Coventry. He’s hoping to add to his list of EFL achievements at Carrow Road this term, despite many fearing a season of transition.

“I think for me coming into this club, this is what I need,” he continued. “I need another promotion, and I think that’s what the lads want us to do.

“Everyone saw this club as the right move for me, especially with the manager now, what he does for young players and what he has done in the past. I feel like it’s good for me and my development for the next years.

“I think consistency is the main thing. There are so many games in this league, and there could be three games in a week.

“We’ve got to take it game by game, grind out wins sometimes. It’s going to be ugly, but we just need to get the job done.”
