The Gold Coast Titans are heading into this weekend’s clash against the New Zealand Warriors on the back of two strong wins, only hoping to continue their NRL ladder climb.
After beating the Dragons and Knights, as well as claiming a memorable victory over the Panthers in Round 16 through a Zane Harrison field goal, the 13th-placed Titans have found momentum despite their top-eight hopes appearing slim.
New Zealand-born second-rower Arama Hau has admitted the recent wins feel encouraging, but he knows it will mean little if his side cannot beat the third placed Warriors.
“Obviously going alright at the moment,” he told Sport Nation’s Millsy & Guy.
“A couple of wins on the trot but it means nothing if we don’t get the job done this weekend, so it will be a good game.”
The 21-year-old said the Titans are expecting a fired-up Warriors outfit, with New Zealand desperate to bounce back after last week’s loss to the Bulldogs and hold onto their top-four position.
“Obviously, Wahs are coming off a loss, and I’m sure they’ll be quite motivated to get after us, so looking forward to the battle.
“We know they’re a quality team and they’re probably going to go a bit harder, which is probably what we want. We want the best of them, so there’s no real excuse.”
While the Warriors are fighting to keep their premiership hopes alive, the Titans are focused on turning recent momentum into more results.
“We’re really keen to just go after it and get a couple more wins.”
He believes Saturday’s contest will likely be decided through the middle, where the Titans will need to match the Warriors’ physicality.
