Essendon President Andrew Welsh has labelled current coach Brad Scott as the next man to lift a premiership cup for the Bombers.
The revelation comes after the Bombers finally broke through for their first win since May last year on the weekend, displaying a discernible method and hunger to win for the first time in many moons.
The win represents reprieve for Scott, who had seen his team’s performance and his own commentary on their play dictate media narratives for much of the season’s early sledding.
“We’re of absolute belief that Brad will be our next premiership coach. There’s no reason for us to think otherwise,” Welsh said.
The Bombers president did the media rounds, interviewed by both The Age and the Herald Sun.
“We’re seeing, as I said, the progress in development and across the team, we’re all very aligned on the path that we’ve taken around building the list and the players that we’re bringing in, and we knew that there was going to be times with a young group that the heat will come, which is why we’ve needed to remain connected internally.”
Essendon had pre-arranged the interviews with the major Melbourne mastheads before the breakthrough victory, seemingly to offer insight into the 17-game mire they found themselves wading through.
