Ryan Carr: Castleford Tigers announce Australian as new head coach from 2026 Super League season | Rugby League News | Sky Sports
Castleford Tigers boss Ryan Carr has vowed that his players will not get carried away by their first Super League win of the season.

The Tigers comfortably saw off the challenge of a Huddersfield Giants team who also came into the game winless in the top flight in 2026 with much improved defensive work put forward by Carr as a major reason for the turn round in fortunes.

But the head coach backed up his belief that this Cas team are a work in progress and they will have to keep on improving if they are to achieve what they want to.

“I’m really happy for my team because there’s been a lot work gone into getting to where we’re at and there’s going to continue to be a lot more work,” said Carr.

“But it’s just one win – we’ve got to make sure we perform consistently every week now.

“We completed really well and our defence was a lot better, which is something we need to continue to improve and pride ourselves on.

“In the first three games we’ve defended our tryline well, but we’re doing it too often.

“We’ve just got to make sure that we’re not doing it so frequently, we’re spending too much time on our own tryline and that’s something we’ve got to look at.

“But we’re building something here, we’re a new group of people, a new group of players.

“We had a tough trip over to Toulouse and had a six-day turn around, but wanted to make amends for a disappointing performance and I thought we really did that.”

Carr is hoping the victory takes away any anxiety that may have been developing.

He explained: “We’re literally a new team and people need to realise. It’s not an excuse, it’s fact, and I just want to make sure we’re proud of what we do.

“We’re a team that’s going to learn a lot along the way and when things happen it’s making sure you correct them for the next time you’re faced with that same thing.

“There are many examples from the first month of footy that we’ve had where we’ve fixed what we had to. There were some things again that we’re going to learn again and as long as we continue to learn from them and don’t make the same mistakes twice that’s what winning culture is.”
