Swindon Town Boss’ Statement Amid forward Case For New Contract

Ian Holloway feels that Paul Glatzel is one of many players making a compelling case to remain at Swindon Town beyond this season.

Having had a difficult first full season at Swindon, Glatzel has started to hit form of late after finally being handed a consistent run in the team.

Having looked dangerous against AFC Wimbledon, the former Liverpool man had a big hand in three of the four goals against Fleetwood Town last week.

Glatzel will be out of contract this summer and has said that he intends to “show what I am capable of” before the end of the season.

His performances and application have left a big impression on Holloway as he continues to evaluate his players as if they are on trial.

He said: “I think that we would be a terrible threat to anybody. If you sit back against us, then we are going to impose ourselves and pin you back.

“We haven’t always got that balance, but today we knew where they were and we got down the side of them.

“Glatz was absolutely exceptional, I thought that he was outstanding today.

“If you look at the second goal and how that worked with Glatz, he is left-footed, but what a cross.

“[How big of a case is he making for a new contract?] Absolutely, he is, and they all are.

“So is Tom [Nichols]. Tom is out of contract, and so is Nnamdi [Ofoborh].

“I guarantee that if you ask all of them, they want to be here, but they have got to prove that.”

Holloway is still intently studying the 18 players in his squad who are not currently part of his group for next year to see who he would like to keep hold of.

He said: “They have got more than enough chances to impress me because I stare at them every single training day. They might not even know [that I am doing that].

“That is where you see who you want, and I see who I want when they don’t get what they want.

“I try to surround myself with people who, if they didn’t just get what they want, then don’t whinge about it, just go out and go to work.

“They have to prove to me that they have the right character to eventually get what they want. Winners aren’t born; they are losers who never stopped trying.

“If you get enough of them around you, then you will go somewhere.”
