29-Year-Old Portsmouth Star Wants To Sign New Contract

Portsmouth goalkeeper Ben Killip has said he would ‘love’ to stay at Fratton Park this summer.

Portsmouth have a decision to make regarding the future of the stopper. Pompey handed him a short-term deal when he joined earlier this year running until the end of June.

Killip, 29, has started their last two games against Sheffield Wednesday and Hull City. They drew 1-1 with the latter over the weekend.

He has said, as per The News: “I backed myself to come here and do well. It took a while, but I feel I’ve proven myself a bit in the last two games and we’ll see what happens. The gaffer has seen me every day in training for the last 3-4 months and if he feels I’m nowhere near, then I wouldn’t have the chance, so I’m grateful to him.

“Last weekend was a tough game, Sheffield Wednesday were really on it, and I thought I was pretty decent in that. Against Hull, I made my saves and did what I could. We’ll see what the conversations are and then go from there. Obviously how could you not want to stay at Pompey? It’s an incredible club, an incredible place to go, I would love to stay. We’ll wait and see.”

Portsmouth goalkeeper Ben Killip wants to stay

Portsmouth signed Killip in the last window to add more cover to their goalkeeping department. He has since provided back-up between the sticks for Pompey.

Prior to his switch down south, he spent two years at Barnsley in League One. He played 36 matches altogether for the Tykes, 21 of which came during the first half of this campaign.

The London-born man spent time on the books at Chelsea as a youngster. He then switched to Norwich City and was loaned out to King’s Lynn Town and Lowestoft Town to get some experience.

Killip left Carrow Road on a permanent basis in 2017. He has since embarked on spells at Grimsby Town, Braintree Town, Hartlepool United and Barnsley.

What now for Ben Killip at Portsmouth?

Portsmouth have a decision to make about whether to keep Killip or let him go. If Pompey opt to release him, he would become a free agent.

John Mousinho has done an impressive job since taking over. He guided his team to promotion from League One last year along with Oxford United and Derby County.

They have since managed to survive in the second tier and will want to build on that now. The transfer window opens for business soon and they will have the chance to bring in some new faces to boost their ranks.
