Sheffield Wednesday have barely skimmed the surface of the loan market this summer.
Last summer saw them bring in five loan additions, however none of them managed to impress and two were sent home early.
Sheffield Wednesday seem to be much more cautious about signing players on loan this time round, having welcomed James Beadle to the club for the second time this year.
With the Owls set to splash £3 million on Ike Ugbo this week, Dejphon Chansiri’s pockets could be looking rather empty though and may force their hand.
Danny Rohl has made it clear he wants to bring in a centre-back and a midfielder before deadline day, and he may now have been given the perfect opportunity to bolster the middle of the park.
Isaac Hayden is available on loan after QPR spell
It was reported this week that former target Isaac Hayden would be available on a permanent deal, though his £22k-per-week salary may have caused a problem there.
Wednesday had tried to sign the midfielder on loan from Newcastle United in January, but he went onto join QPR instead.
However, the Yorkshire outfit may be more open to reigniting their interest in Hayden now that he is available on loan instead.
Journalist Darren Witcoop wrote on X: “Appears that Isaac Hayden will now be heading on loan from Newcastle rather than any permanent exit. QPR among the Championship clubs keen on bringing Hayden back.”
Should Sheffield Wednesday reignite their interest?
Hayden was a regular for QPR in the second half of the season and it is clear they were impressed enough to bring him back.
The 29-year-old could be intrigued by another season under Marti Cifuentes, but he surely can’t ignore the success of Rohl recently.
While Hayden is originally from Chelmsford and spent eight years with Arsenal, he has lived in the North East since 2016.
The defensive midfielder could well be tempted by a move up north again, especially if his family stayed up in Newcastle during his time at Loftus Road.
Hayden has made a positive impact during his various spells in the Championship and won the league title with Newcastle, as well as battling for a play-off spot with both Hull City and Norwich.
Hayden will surely be persuaded by the chance to push for promotion, and with many tipping Wednesday to do just that, they could be a tempting offer.
Whether the Owls will push to sign Hayden is another question, but they really need to bring in some competition for Nathaniel Chalobah and a former target of theirs seems like the perfect resolution.
