The Chicago White Sox have signed a free agent third baseman to their roster, while also optioning Lenyn Sosa to Triple-A, and designating Danny Mendick for assignment.
The White Sox signed Nick Senzel Wednesday.
The 29-year-old Senzel comes to Chicago after being designated for assignment by the Washington Nationals on July 6, and later released on July 11. He hit .209 with ten doubles, seven home runs, 18 RBI and 25 runs scored in 64 games with the Nationals this year.
In terms of career numbers, Senzel has played in parts of six Major League seasons with the Cincinnati Reds (2019-23) and Washington this year.

In 441 career games, Senzel has slashed .235/.302/.368 with 63 doubles, 40 home runs, 143 RBI and 200 runs scored. Though he’s listed as a third baseman, Senzel can also play multiple positions around the diamond. Defensively, he has appeared in 267 games in center field, 109 games at third base, 23 games in left field, 18 games in right field and 16 games at second base.
Sosa is slashing .237/.274/.350 (42-177) with eight doubles, four home runs, 15 RBI, 13 runs scored and three stolen bases in 52 games over two stints with the White Sox this season.
Mendick was hitting .197 with seven doubles, three home runs, eight RBI and 13 runs scored over 47 games with the Sox this season.
With the moves, the White Sox 40-man roster decreases to 39. The Sox will make a corresponding move prior to Friday’s game at the Kansas City Royals.
