The Chicago White Sox signed free agent infielder Josh Rojas Wednesday, according to a press release from the team.
The White Sox agreed to terms on a one-year, $3.5-million contract with Rojas.
Rojas spent the 2024 season with the Seattle Mariners, hitting .225/.304/.336 in 422 at-bats with 19 doubles, two triples, eight home runs, 31 RBI, 48 runs scored and 10 stolen bases over 143 games. A left-handed hitter, Rojas slashed .343/.405/.505 with four doubles, two triples, three homers and eight RBI over his first 32 games of last season.
Rojas is a .247/.323/.362 career hitter with 100 doubles, six triples, 34 home runs, 189 RBI, 256 runs scored and 59 steals in 570 games over five major-league seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks (2019-23) and Seattle (2023-24). He was traded by the Diamondbacks with outfielder Dominic Canzone and infielder Ryan Bliss to the Mariners in exchange for right-handed pitcher Paul Sewald on July 31, 2023.
Rojas was selected by the Houston Astros in the 26th round of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Hawai’i. He was acquired by Arizona as part of a five-player trade that sent Zack Greinke to the Astros on July 31, 2019.
To make room for Rojas on the 40-man roster, the White Sox designated infielder Jake Amaya for assignment.
Amaya batted .176 with one double, three RBI and four runs scored over 24 games between Houston and the Sox last season. He was claimed by the White Sox off waivers from the Astros on Aug. 26, 2024.
The White Sox 40-man roster remains at 40.
