2024 has been a disastrous season for the Chicago White Sox. Before even reaching the month of September, the South Siders have already been eliminated from postseason contention.
Their 30-94 record is the worst in baseball, and they’ve already cleaned house with their coaching staff, firing manager Pedro Grifol.
The next few years figure to be bleak for the White Sox, and their rebuild is expected to continue.
According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the White Sox are still expected to trade away two stars.
“The White Sox still intend to trade [Garrett] Crochet in the offseason, and hope to also move center fielder Luis Robert Jr., who hit two homers on Friday after being in a 5-for-46 skid,” Nightengale wrote.
The White Sox have certainly had a rough season, and they were looking to trade both Crochet and Robert at the deadline. However, that never materialized.
But it appears that the immediate future is bleak for the South Siders, who traded Dylan Cease at the beginning of the season and quickly fell out of contention.
The haul for Crochet would likely be massive after such a dominant season, so the White Sox can certainly capitalize on that. Robert may not generate as big of a haul, however.
Perhaps the White Sox could package them together to maximize the value, but trading Crochet will be much easier than moving a struggling Robert.
Crochet is 6-9 with a 3.61 ERA over 124.2 innings of work. He also has punched out 176 batters.
Robert has hit 14 home runs but has struggled to the tune of a .212 average and .692 OPS.
