Even Steven. The Minnesota Timberwolves currently fit that description. I’ll explain.
Recently, the Minnesota Timberwolves have been quite busy, with a number of front-office decisions making the press. But overall, the Timberwolves squad has been one of the NBA’s most well-rounded and balanced teams.
This squad is nonetheless susceptible to the occasional adjustment, despite that. The Timberwolves have done just that by releasing guard Vit Krejci under his Exhibit 10 contract, which makes sense for a club that is starting to trim its roster in front of the 2023–24 NBA season.
But because of that, the Timberwolves’ front office’s announcement of today is a little intriguing, if not a little perplexing. You see, the Timberwolves have a few tricks under their sleeves, one of which is adding a fresh face to the roster:

The name may be familiar to you. D.J. Carton performed well for the Wolves at the NBA Summer League Tournament in 2023. He equaled veteran guard Wendell Moore Jr. most assists in the post-tournament analysis, which is undoubtedly a quality the Timberwolves are looking for in a roster player.
We identified Carton as one of the five players who, given their great summer league achievements, merited an offer of a typical NBA deal. Many of the players mentioned in that article have really signed with other NBA clubs after it was first published.
Will Carton be given a roster place by the Timberwolves? Or is this just a means of enabling the Timberwolves to send Carton to the Iowa Wolves?
