Sheffield Wednesday have relied upon loan man James Beadle for a presence in between the sticks for near a season-and-a-half now.
Sheffield Wednesday have made good use of the loan market since Danny Rohl’s arrival. Among those brought to SWFC in the German’s first window was goalkeeper James Beadle.
After spells with Crewe Alexandra and Oxford United, the move gave Brighton & Hove Albion starlet Beadle his first shot at Championship football. He’s since developed well and affirmed why he’s viewed among the country’s top goalkeeping prospects.
However, it is more than likely that the Owls won’t get him back for a third loan this summer. Pierce Charles could be given a chance to step into the starting spot, but another ‘keeper will be needed regardless.
With that said, we put forward three goalkeepers Sheffield Wednesday should have on their radar going into the summer…
Viteslav Jaros – Liverpool
Jaros has served as third-choice goalkeeper at Liverpool this season, making for a fairly slow campaign off the back of a double-winning loan in Austria with Sturm Graz in which his stock rose drastically.
The one-cap Czechia international needs regular football and with his deal up at the end of this season, he could be a smart permanent signing for Sheffield Wednesday.
The 23-year-old has already proven himself at a solid level in Austria and has time to develop further. Jaros could be a great number one for SWFC.
Carl Rushworth – Brighton & Hove Albion
The Owls could look to put their solid Brighton relationship to use by securing another of their talented goalkeepers on loan.
Carl Rushworth’s momentum has been stunted a bit this season after a disrupted Hull City loan and he’s not played much football as a result. However, the Englishman has proven to be a fine goalkeeper in EFL loans and could benefit from another to gain more game time away from the Seagulls, where chances will be limited.
Sheffield Wednesday could offer him that opportunity, and either a permanent or temporary deal seems feasible.
Daniel Iversen – Leicester City
Last but not least is the most experienced option of the three. 27-year-old Daniel Iversen’s deal expires at the end of this season and it seems highly likely that he moves on from Leicester City.
Sheffield Wednesday would likely face competition for the Dane’s signature given his Championship pedigree but he’s a realistic free transfer signing for the club. Preston North End have already been linked since the end of the winter transfer window.
Iversen has 29 clean sheets to his name in 87 Championship games, spending time with Preston and Stoke City previously. He would be a steady addition for SWFC.
