The Texans continue to spend to shore up their defense. Earlier this week, the team made cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. the highest paid defensive back in NFL history. And now, they’re reportedly making Danielle Hunter the second highest-paid defensive end.
According to NFL Network, Hunter and the Texans agreed to a one-year $36.5 million extension that goes through the 2026 season, as first reported by Tom Pelissero. NFL Network reports the new deal would mean Hunter would make $55.1 million over the next two seasons.
The extension puts Hunter right behind Myles Garrett on the list of highest-paid defensive ends, according to NFL.com.
Hunter came to the Texans last season from Minnesota. In 2024, Hunter had a Pro Bowl season with 35 solo tackles and 12 sacks between the regular season and playoffs.
For his career, he has 347 solo tackles and 99.5 sacks.
Hunter, who played his high school football at Morton Ranch, was a third-round pick out of LSU.
