Swindon Town are close to their 11th signing of the transfer window, with a Premier League forward set to join on loan.
Ian Holloway’s side have been active this transfer window. They’ve signed 10 new players so far this window, with eight players joining permanently and two on loan.
Their work in the window doesn’t appear to be done. Holloway is keen to bring a player who spent last year on loan at Swindon back to the club.
That player is Joe Westley, who is contracted to Premier League side Burnley. He’s expected to join Swindon Town on loan again this season.
Westley to Rejoin Swindon Town
Alan Nixon shared on his Patreon that Swindon Town are set to win the race for Westley, and a deal is said to be close.
This comes after Holloway told the Swindon Advertiser that he hoped to find out whether Westley would return soon.
Westley to Return Despite StrugglesÂ
The return of Westley might come as a surprise to some Swindon fans. He didn’t have the most successful spell at the club last season, but Nixon said that Holloway made a big impression on the young man.
Westley featured 17 times for Swindon Town, only starting three games in League Two. In those appearances, he averaged just 29 minutes in total and received an average rating of 6.68 from Sofascore.
Despite not appearing quite as much as he would have likely wished, he did score three goals. Westley could have had more, missing four big chances.
In his limited game time, he had 0.4 shots on target and 0.8 total shots per game. He finished the season for Swindon Town with a goal conversion of 21%.
Creatively, he’ll likely be hoping to be more influential this season if he does rejoin. He failed to register an assist or create a big chance and had 0.3 key passes per game.
Is This a Good Move for Westley?
For Westley, a move back to Swindon looks like a good option for him. It’s another chance to impress his parent club, Burnley and get key senior minutes.
Even though his first loan spell at the club didn’t likely go as he would have hoped, playing for an experienced manager like Holloway can be a good learning opportunity for the young man.
If he can get a good run of games and chip in with more goals, he could easily make a name for himself in the league.
