Swindon Town Exciting Fitness Update As Defender Returns Before Doncaster Rovers Clash

Swindon Town have a clean bill of health as they head to Doncaster Rovers following a strenuous week against two other League Two challengers.

Having already travelled to table-toppers Walsall and hosted playoff-chasing Salford City within the last week, Town will finish that three-game stretch against a Doncaster side hoping to further strengthen their chances of automatic promotion.

Swindon have struggled with injuries for much of the season and still have Grant Hall, Harrison Minturn, Billy Kirkman, and Aaron Drinan all out for the foreseeable future, along with Ollie Clarke serving the second game of his suspension.

Despite the stress of the week, Ian Holloway revealed that Swindon have managed to come through without picking up any further knocks and will have a full group ready for the trip to the Eco-Power Stadium.

He said: “We have got a squad of 19, so there is a spare one and I have probably told that person ‘If you are not in the squad, do you want to come?’ I will wait and see what his answer is.

“I am not forcing him to come, obviously there is an additional cost to him coming, but I am trying to keep everything together.

“Obviously Ollie is out but everybody else has come through [the last two games] unscathed.”

Harry Smith said on Tuesday that it had been an exhausting week but the squad would do what they needed to do to be ready.

He said: “You could say maybe tonight and Saturday have taken it out of us but we are footballers and we prepared properly.

“We had a good day yesterday [Monday] off feet, the lads that started went out, did the warm-up, and were straight back in.

“We are used to this load, it is a tough week and we are travelling again on Friday but we will prepare properly to be ready for Doncaster.”

George Cox returned to full training this week having been recovering from a foot injury and having sat out the Salford match to get more time to reach full fitness, will be involved again this weekend.

He said: “We are adding Coxy to that, so we might have 18 or we might have 19.”

In Kirkman and Cox’s absence, Jake Cain and Miguel Freckleton have both filled in at left-back and done a strong job, so Holloway has a choice on his hands now that the former Brighton defender has returned.
