Tom Brewitt is set to join Orange County following his exit from Swindon Town last year, as per reporter Pete O’Rourke on X.

Swindon Town cut ties with the defender at the end of last season. STFC opted against extending his contract at the County Ground.

Brewitt, 27, subsequently became a free agent in late June. He has since been without a club and has been weighing up his options.

In this latest update regarding his situation by journalist O’Rourke on X, he is poised for a new challenge in America with Orange County. They play in the Western Conference of the USL Championship, which is the second tier of American soccer.

As for Swindon Town, they are sat in 14th place in the League Two table and are 10 points off the play-offs. They are managed by Ian Holloway these days and won 5-1 away a Carlisle United last time out.

Orange County swoop for ex-Swindon Town man Tom Brewitt

Swindon Town landed Brewitt back in 2023 to boost their defensive ranks.

He went on to make 46 appearances for the Robins in all competitions, 34 of which came in the last campaign, and he scored one goal.

After joining the Robins, he told their website: “I’m over the moon to be here at such an exciting club that is chasing promotion and heading in the right direction.

“We’ve got a really talented young manager (Jody Morris) and I’ve been able to get a good number of games under my belt over the last year or so. I feel ready for the challenge ahead. I’ll bring experience to the group as well as leadership qualities, and I can’t wait to get going.”

Brewitt was on the books at Liverpool and Middlesbrough as a youngster.

He then had spells at AFC Fylde and Morecambe before moving to America in 2021 for stints at Tacoma Defiance and Hartford Athletic.

The Liverpudlian returned to England with Swindon Town and enjoyed plenty of game time in Wiltshire before heading out the exit door.

What now for Tom Brewitt after Swindon Town exit?

A return to the States is now on the cards for Brewitt after a lengthy period without a club.

Orange County finished 6th last year and made the play-offs.

Former Peterborough United and Grimsby Town left-back Andrew Fox plays for them, whilst ex-Notts County player Danny Stone is their head coach.
