Swindon Town and Bromley Rivals In Transfer Battle To Sign Star Forward

League Two clubs are interested in signing non-league sensation Jake Tabor following his excellent spell at Amersham Town.

Swindon Town have asked about taking Tabor on trial this summer, while Bromley are also reportedly keen on bringing the striker to Hayes Lane, but Barrow are the club that have offered him a contract at this stage, as per journalist Alan Nixon via his Patreon.

The prolific forward has been the leading goalscorer in English football for the last two seasons, according to The Non League Football Paper, which has put him on the radar of clubs that are willing to give him an opportunity to show what he is capable of in the EFL.

Following the departure of manager Stuart Atkins after the club failed to win promotion last season, Amersham agreed to terminate the contract Tabor signed earlier this year, meaning that any of the interested parties can make an approach to sign him on a free transfer.

Nixon’s report has revealed that Barrow have done just that, so if Swindon and Bromley are serious about bringing him in this summer, then they will need to take action.

Tabor could have a decision to make

As things stand, it appears as though Barrow is the likeliest destination for Tabor, given they have offered him a contract, but he could yet have a decision to make if either of the other interested clubs attempt to strike a deal of their own.

Barrow finished 16th in the fourth tier last term, but after finishing the campaign with a seven-game unbeaten run, Andy Whing will hope they can carry that momentum into his first full season in charge at Holker Street.

Only one side that finished above the Bluebirds in the table scored fewer goals, so Tabor could potentially sense an opportunity to make a real difference next season with his goalscoring ability.

Swindon ended last season in 12th place under Ian Holloway, who had a really positive impact on the Robins following his arrival in October last year.

Given that they were in danger of finding themselves in a relegation battle at the time of Holloway’s appointment, the fact Swindon finished mid-table could give Tabor reason to believe they are set for a positive season if the club does try and secure his services.

Bromley enjoyed a successful first season at EFL level last term, finishing four points adrift of the play-off places in 11th position.

Michael Cheek won the Golden Boot in League Two with 25 league goals, but, as was exclusively revealed by Football League World, the 33-year-old is being eyed up by League One side Wigan Athletic. If the veteran does leave the Ravens, Tabor could be tempted by the prospect of trying to become the main man up front for Bromley as they look to continue their progress.

Tabor knows where the back of the net is

Whichever club manages to sign Tabor this summer will have brought in a player who has proven that he knows where the back of the net is.

The three clubs that are said to be interested in Tabor have history of success with players coming out of non-league, with Barrow and Bromley both having adapted excellently following their promotions from the National League in recent years, while Swindon saw what can happen when a signing from a lower level pays off with Charlie Austin.

It will be interesting to see where Tabor ends up, and how he performs in the EFL next season, but Swindon and Bromley now face a battle to sign him following the news that Barrow have made a contract offer.
