Stockport County Confirm Re-Signing Of 29-Year-Old Midfielder Ahead Of 2025/2026 Campaign

Stockport County have confirmed news that midfielder Callum Camps has secured a new deal with the League One side, ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Camps, 29, has secured himself a new two-year contract at Stockport County after he continued to establish himself as a key player for Dave Challinor’s side in the current season.

Camp’s Journey –

Callum Camp’s career so far has involved spells with three sides – Rochdale, Fleetwood Town and now Stockport County.

After coming through Dale’s youth system, he signed a professional contract ahead of the 2013/14 season – a season in which he won Youth Player of the Year.

After moving to Fleetwood Town, he scored on his debut before going on to make 73 appearances across the course of two seasons in League One. Camps was also able to score 12 goals in this period.

The midfielder then joined Dave Challioner’s squad at Stockport County ahead of the 2022/23 season – a squad that had just been promoted from the National League to the Football League.

During this period, Camps has been able to make 77 appearances scoring nine goals across three seasons before signing a new contract today as confirmed via a statement on the club’s website.

How does he fit in at Stockport?

The former youth international plays in two main positions – centre midfielder and defensive midfielder.

This often leads to Camps shooting from outside the box which can be seen through his statistics from the 2024/25 season where the 29 year old took 18 of his 25 shots from outside the box.

Camps’ defensive actions are also a crucial part of his gameplay – especially when playing in a defensive midfielder role in Stockport’s 3-1-4-2 formation with the one being the defensive midfielder position.

This is something that Camps executes well with the midfielder winning 71.9% of his tackles whilst also winning 58.2% of his duels.

Passing is always a crucial part of a midfielder’s gameplay with midfielders arguably the creators of many big chances through their passing abilities.

Callum Camps can be seen to be no different to this with the 29 year old making 475 passes with a 74.2% passing accuracy as well as a 39.1% successful cross percentage which have allowed Camps to create chances for County during the season.

However, Camps’ position can lead to him picking up yellow cards which can be seen through the youth international’s 2024/25 discipline record which has seen the midfielder pick up six yellow cards.

Stockport’s aspirations for 2025/26 – a promotion charge?

Stockport can be argued to be still recovering from their second-leg loss to Leyton Orient which followed their third place finish in League One. However, some fans are already looking ahead to next season where promotion will be the aim.

With an arguably large budget, the Hatters will likely be aiming to recruit smartly to improve in key areas and to build a squad that can compete in an already competitive division.

However, keeping players who have been key from this season’s play-off finish will be crucial if County are to compete. This can be argued to include players such as Corey Addai, Issac Olaofe and Kyle Wootton.

What do you think?

With Camps signing a two year deal, will he play a crucial role in Stockport’s squad next season or will injuries interrupt his season again?

Can Stockport build a squad good enough to win automatic promotion? Give your view in the comments.
