St Helens make seven changes with three major injury boosts ahead of Castleford Tigers clash

St Helens host Castleford Tigers on Friday night and with the Red Vee set to finish fifth in Super League regardless, Paul Wellens has made a whopping seven changes.

Of those seven, only two are enforced as Alex Walmsley (HIA) and George Delaney (one-match ban) drop out, but they’re joined by five other key players, but none are half-backs.

The St Helens spine has been a major talking point and whilst hooker Daryl Clark does drop out, all of Jack Welsby, Tristan Sailor, Jonny Lomax, Moses Mbye and George Whitby are named to the 21-man squad.

All eyes will be on how Paul Wellens selects his spine for the game, which is effectively a dead rubber, but how much can be learned given how many big names are out is as yet unclear.

St Helens team news

Joining Walmsley, Delaney and Clark on the sidelines are centres Mark Percival and Harry Robertson, as well as forwards Matty Lees and Curtis Sironen.

Three men return from injury in Morgan Knowles, Lewis Murphy and Noah Stephens, whilst young stars Will Roberts, Leon Cown, Jake Davies and Cole Marsh are named to the squad.

Shane Wright, who was named last week but didn’t play, is named again whilst recently confirmed departees James Bell and and Joe Batchelor are also named.

St Helens 21-man squad: Jack Welsby, Kyle Feldt, Jon Bennison, Tristan Sailor, Jonny Lomax, Joe Batchelor, Morgan Knowles, Moses Mbye, James Bell, Matt Whitley, Agnatius Paasi, Lewis Murphy, Noah Stephens, Jake Burns, George Whitby, Will Roberts, Leon Cowen, Jake Davies, Cole Marsh, Deon Cross, Shane Wright

Castleford Tigers team news

Chris Chester names an unchanged 21-man squad although there are hopes that both Zac Cini and Jason Qareqare, who didn’t play last week, could feature on Friday night.

Muizz Mustapha was the sole try scorer last week in a heavy defeat to Wigan Warriors with fans hoping he can replicate his dancing try from 40 yards out.

Castleford Tigers 21-man squad: Tex Hoy, Jason Qareqare, Zac Cini, Sam Wood, Daejarn Asi, Liam Horne, George Lawler, Alex Mellor, Joe Westerman, George Griffin, Cain Robb, Sam Hall, Muizz Mustapha, Louis Senior, Will Tate, George Hill, Jenson Windley, Brad Singleton, Chris Atkin, Joe Stimson, Elliot Wallis
