Southampton Under-21 Forward Remains Relaxed But Is Open To A Loan Experience

Youngster Amo-Ameyaw has only made two Premier League appearances for goal-shy Saints this season, coming off the substitutes bench in both.

The 18 year old has also made two appearances in the Carabao Cup and scored his career-first senior goal in a thrilling 5-3 win at Cardiff City in August.

Manager Juric recently insisted regular minutes are the most important thing for any youngster and labelled a loan the “best scenario” for Amo-Ameyaw.

Asked if a loan could be on the cards this month, Amo-Ameyaw told the Daily Echo: “Whatever the club think is best for me, is best for me.

“Hopefully we can sort something out so I can get back to playing again. I love being around the first team but I want to play football, to be honest.”

With a route into the first-team squad increasingly difficult, he returned to the under-21s on Friday and helped Saints claim a 5-0 win over Fulham.

The England youth international scored a low-driven shot from outside the box before feeding teammate Dom Ballard for his hat-trick goal.

Amo-Ameyaw has not been included in any of Juric’s squads since the Croatian was appointed to replace former boss Russell Martin in December.

Martin showed great faith in the Spurs product, who now needs to impress Juric, but had suggested he is not yet ready for the rigours of the Premier League.

“I haven’t been training (with the first team) much recently because there are so many players,” Amo-Ameyaw admitted.

“I’ve been by myself or with the under-21s sometimes, but when I do train with the senior team, I try to be myself and show them what I am capable of.

“It is difficult with a new manager who has a different style of play. Hopefully, I can show him what I’m about – but I enjoy it with the under-21s.

“To be honest, I’m just trying to keep fit. That’s the most important thing. It doesn’t matter where I’m playing, I have to keep fit in case something happens.”

Amo-Ameyaw remains a promising England youth international but has not quite enjoyed the same rapid rise fellow teenager Tyler Dibling has this season.

Dibling appeared behind Amo-Ameyaw in the pecking order at the start of last season but has shot to stardom since promotion to the Premier League.

Amo-Ameyaw is pleased to see his friend doing well and is working to ensure he can take his opportunity in much the same way when it arrives.

“Tyler is doing really well and hopefully he can keep doing it,” he concluded, speaking with a big smile on his face.

“He was given a chance and he’s shown he was capable of taking it. Hopefully, I’m able to do the same thing when I’m given a chance.”
