Southampton Star Returns From Season Long Loan Spell

MK Dons loanee Nico Lawrence has returned to Southampton, as per a report by the MK Citizen.

MK Dons landed the defender last summer on a temporary basis and he has since made 22 appearances for the League Two side. However, he has now played his last game for the Buckinghamshire outfit.

Lawrence, 21, has been on the books at Southampton since joining them back in 2022. They have a big decision to make on what to do with him next ahead of next season.

In this latest update regarding his future, the MK Citizen have reported that he has gone back to the Saints prematurely. The Dons have only one fixture left to get through before the end of the campaign.

Paul Warne has recently been appointed as their new manager following Scott Lindsey’s sacking. The former Rotherham United and Derby County man will want to put his own stamp on the squad over the coming months with some new faces.

MK Dons drew 0-0 at home to Grimsby Town last time out. They are back in action this weekend with an away trip to Swindon Town and are currently sat in 18th place in the table, 10 points above the drop zone.

MK Dons loanee Nico Lawrence returns to Southampton

MK Dons landed Lawrence last year on a temporary basis. He was brought in to boost their defensive department.

Southampton gave him the green light to head out the exit door to get some more experience. He made his debut for the Dons against Bradford City.

Lawrence had spells at Fulham, Crystal Palace and Sutton United before the Saints swooped in. They offered him a contract after he impressed on trial.

He is yet to make a first-team appearance for the Hampshire outfit. However, he has had other loans away at Torquay United and Colchester United in the past.

What now for Nico Lawrence after MK Dons loan end?

Southampton will be weighing up whether Lawrence can break into their starting XI. They are back in the Championship after just a single term in the Premier League.

The Saints went up last year after beating Leeds United in the play-off final under former manager Russell Martin. The step up proved to be too steep in the end though.

They are in the hunt for a new manager as they look to get promoted at the first time of asking. Lawrence’s future may well depend on what their incoming head coach plans to do.
