Forward Kelly Oubre Jr. joined the Sixers practice yesterday for the first time since he was hit by a car, doing individual on-court workouts. During Monday’s media availability, Nick Nurse told reporters that the team would get a better feel for his impending return on Tuesday.
Today, the team put out a statement announcing that Oubre is continuing to recover from his fractured rib. He will be re-evaluated in one week from now.
Originally, it was feared Oubre would miss a big chunk of the year. However, recent developments seem to hint towards a possible return in the coming weeks.
The Sixers have missed Oubre since his injury, particularly with the second unit and its lack of shot creation. His on-court production and physical presence should give the Sixers a welcomed mid-season boost.
In eight games (five starts) Oubre is averaging 16.3 points and 5.1 rebounds in 29.0 minutes per game. He’s shooting 50% from the field and 37.8% from three.
