The Seattle Mariners claimed right-handed relief pitcher Hagen Danner off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday.
Danner, 26, made one appearance in the majors with Toronto in August 2023 against the Chicago Cubs, recording an out against the only batter he faced. Danner made 33 appearances for Triple-A Buffalo last year, posting a 3.15 ERA in 34 â…“ innings pitched with 12 earned runs allowed, 13 walks and 34 strikeouts.
Danner was a second-round pick by the Blue Jays in the 2017 MLB Draft out of Huntington Beach High School in California as a catcher. He played three seasons in the minors as a catcher before becoming a pitcher prior to the 2021 season. Danner was designated for assignment by Toronto in December.
It’s just the third addition the Mariners have made this offseason as they’ve mostly stood on the sidelines when it comes to player acquisition.
The Mariners re-acquired infielder Austin Shenton from the Tampa Bay Rays for cash considerations in November, and added depth catcher Nick Raposo off waivers from the Blue Jays in December.
Seattle now has 39 players on their 40-man roster.
