Mark Nawaqanitawase has sparked a wave of excitement among rugby league fans, hinting that his spectacular NRL season may not be the last they see of him in league.

Following a stunning Kangaroos debut in Australia’s 26-6 triumph over England at Wembley, the Roosters winger revealed that a comeback to the NRL after achieving his Rugby World Cup dream in 2027 is something he’s seriously considering.

“It’s so far away, I don’t know – but it could be on the cards … it’s definitely on the cards,” Nawaqanitawase told AAP.

Although other NRL clubs are likely eyeing him closely and would jump at the chance to sign the 25-year-old, he made it clear that if a comeback happens, the Roosters are where he wants it to be.

“Especially at the Roosters where I am, it’s been amazing. So it’s definitely on the cards,” he stated.

Known for his laid-back demeanour, Nawaqanitawase kept things light when pressed on his long-term plans, sharing how “It’s a long way, away – so just relax.”

In only his first NRL season, he has taken fans by storm, topping the try-scoring charts with 24 tries in 23 games and claiming the season’s best try with a dazzling display of individual brilliance.

Reflecting on a remarkable year as a dual-code international, Nawaqanitawase admitted he’s still in awe of everything he’s achieved, describing the experience as a dream come true.

“It’s a pinch yourself moment, I still can’t believe it’s gone so quick. I’m just lucky to be here, got to enjoy it,” Nawaqanitawase beamed.

“To be in an Australian jersey again so quickly – it was very special, seeing my family up there in the stands, pretty cool.

“But it’s gone so fast; I’m living the dream, mate, and I’m just trying to enjoy every moment.

“The atmosphere was amazing, something you want to be a part of. We had, what, 60,000 out there tonight, and it felt like 120,000.

“I was blowing out there a bit, but it was a great match to be a part of. Very similar to the Olympics and other big games I’ve played in, the quality of players I’m surrounded by is very special.”
