Dillon Brooks, a guard for the Houston Rockets, was penalized by the NBA with a fine of US$25,000 for carelessly contacting Daniel Theis, a center for the Indiana Pacers.
Theis was struck in the groin by Brooks four and a half minutes into the Rockets’ 122-103 preseason victory against Indiana at home on Tuesday. Brooks was given a flagrant-2 penalty and was then dismissed from the contest.
After inking a four-year, US$86 million contract with the Rockets over the offseason, Brooks, a Mississauga, Ontario native, was making his debut for the franchise.
Because of his tough style of play, Brooks often racks up fouls.
In the previous three seasons, he accrued 44 technical fouls as a member of the Memphis Grizzlies.
