The Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies tried to acquire Chicago White Sox left-hander Garrett Crochet before the trade deadline.
Both squads made attractive trade offers to Chicago for the 25-year-old, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, who reports the Dodgers were still speaking with the White Sox in the final hour before the deadline.
No deal materialized, with the Dodgers pivoting to Jack Flaherty, whom they acquired from the Detroit Tigers for two prospects. The Phillies didn’t end up landing a starting pitcher.
The Dodgers did not include prized catching prospect Dalton Rushing in their offer to the White Sox, nor did the Phillies make right-hander Andrew Painter available, sources told Rosenthal.
Los Angeles did reportedly offer right-hander River Ryan, but Chicago was concerned about his health. Ryan was recently shut down to undergo Tommy John surgery.
Crochet, who’s earning $800,000 and is under club control for two seasons after this campaign, has been one of baseball’s best hurlers in 2024. The All-Star southpaw owns a 3.65 ERA and 12.5 K/9 in 120 2/3 frames during his first year as a starter.
