A Reading FC supporters group has reacted with delight after an agreement was finalised for the club to be taken over. Former Wycombe Wanderers boss Rob Couhig will become the new owner.
“Sell before we Dai” was formed to try to get rid of owner Dai Yongge. Today the group said “We are incredibly relieved and happy that Reading Football Club are FINALLY under new ownership. It’s a day which we thought, at times, may never happen. In the eight years of the Dai Yongge era, every single element of our club went backwards.”
They went on to say “The takeover process has been tortuous and – at times – ill-tempered. We know several bidders came and went, but Couhig remained, and for that we are incredibly grateful.”
The takeover will include the football club, the Select Car Leasing Stadium and Bearwood training ground.
In a statement, the Royals said that they were “pleased to announce the sale in principle of the club” to Couhig’s Redwood Holdings Limited.”The formal completion of the transaction is subject to final legal technicalities but is fully expected to be completed shortly.”
“Sell Before We Dai” said “Reading fans are now. excited to hear in an open forum from Couhig about his plans. Our gratitude is immeasurable but cannot be unconditional. We areunder no illusions that stepswillneed to be taken to undo. thee damage Dai hasdone to this football club, but we hope Couhig runs Reading transparently, prudently, in collaboration with Reading fans with the regard for the clubs’ identity.”
