Portsmouth Manager John Mousinho Reveals What He Really Thinks About Leeds United Ahead Of Weekend Encounter

Leeds United make the long-haul trip to Portsmouth on Sunday for what could be another fiery encounter between the two teams.

Leeds United hosted Portsmouth on the opening day of the 2024/25 season: the Whites going into the new campaign after losing the play-off final last season and Portsmouth coming up from League One.

It was expected to be a one-sided affair at Elland Road. But Portsmouth more than held their own, drawing the game 3-3 and announcing to the Championship that they’re here to compete.

And they’ve done just that in recent weeks. John Mousinho’s side won three in a row before defeat at Luton Town last time out, dragging themselves up into 17th place of the Championship table.

Leeds meanwhile are in 1st and retain a three point lead at the top despite a 1-1 draw against West Brom last time out. Daniel Farke’s side are unbeaten in their last 17 league fixtures.

What Portsmouth manager John Mousinho really thinks about Leeds United

Speaking to the press ahead of the weekend, Pompey boss Mousinho has given his thoughts on Leeds and on their season so far, highlighting their strong campaign after last year’s play-off final heartbreak against Southampton.

Mousinho said: “They’re the best team in the league. I think everybody’s in agreement there. They’ve had a fantastic season I think, particularly bouncing back from the disappointment of the play-off final defeat last season and losing a couple of their key players.

“It’s been a very, very impressive season. They’ve gone from strength to strength… A really good side, full of good player, very good system and well-coached, and that obviously makes for a potent combination at the top of the league.”
