Phoenix Suns Waive 29-Year-Old Forward Ahead Of New Season

Ish Wainright, a fan favorite, has been released by the Phoenix Suns due to a roster shortage, the organization stated Thursday.

Wainright signed the contract on the court before a game at Footprint Center in February, committing to a two-year agreement with a club option for the 2023–2024 campaign.

Early in the 2021–22 season, Wainright originally joined the Suns on a two-way contract. Over the course of the previous two seasons, he participated in 105 games for Phoenix, averaging a career-high 15.3 minutes per game in 60 games last year.

The 6-foot-6 wing shot 37% from the field and 33% from 3-point range last season, averaging 4.2 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 0.9 assists per game. He attempted 227 field goals in all, with 173 of them coming from beyond the arc.

Phoenix currently has 16 normal contracts in addition to Saben Lee and Udoka Azubuike filling two of its three two-way positions. The 15-man roster limit does not apply to two-way contracts.

The day before the start of the regular season, on October 23, at 2:00 p.m. MST, final rosters must be submitted.
