One Sidelined As Sheffield Wednesday Boss Gives Encouraging Injury Update Ahead Of Hull City Clash

Sheffield Wednesday will have everyone apart from Di’Shon Bernard and Max Lowe available for selection against Hull City this weekend.

Sheffield Wednesday are hoping to keep their slim play-off hopes alive with a win this weekend. SWFC host Hull City, who are fighting for survival at the other end of the table.

Five points lay between the Owls and the top six with seven games left to play. It means an uphill battle lays ahead of Danny Rohl and his squad, especially having gone unpaid for March.

Nonetheless, the German is adamant that Wednesday’s hopes aren’t over yet and is keen to retain the focus on on-pitch matters despite the continued uncertainty off it.

In positive news for Sheffield Wednesday though, the squad is in a good place coming into the Tigers test.

Speaking to the media ahead of the game, SWFC boss Rohl revealed that after a week of good training, Stuart Armstrong and Yan Valery will be available for selection against Hull City. Their returns mean that everyone apart from Di’Shon Bernard and Max Lowe will be available, Rohl has said.

“Both Stuart Armstrong and Yan Valery have trained well this week,” the Sheffield Wednesday chief confirmed.

“Apart from Di’Shon and Max, everyone is available. So, I have eight players fighting for two positions in the squad.

“With this competition, we hopefully go into Saturday with a good performance.”

Welcome competition

Sheffield Wednesday have had some tough times on the injury front this season, especially in defence. Bernard and Lowe’s long-term absences mean they are persisting to a certain extent, but things are looking better for the Owls across the squad.

The returns of Armstrong and Valery give Rohl a selection headache to contend with. The former has Barry Bannan, Shea Charles, Nathaniel Chalobah and Svante Ingelsson to fight for a starting berth while Pol Valentin stands in the way of Valery and a return to the starting XI.

There is always a chance that Valentin moves into a wing-back role and Valery comes in at centre-back, but Rohl has played with a back four more often than not in 2025.

The importance of three points

Sheffield Wednesday will know how three points here could impact their season. A triumph while those above slip up could move them within two points of the top two.

That would require a good amount to go in their favour but none of West Brom, Middlesbrough or Bristol City are out of reach yet. Those three are the strongest contenders for a play-off spot alongside 5th-placed Coventry City, though Watford, Norwich City, Blackburn Rovers and Millwall are arguably still in the hunt.

A win could be decisive but defeat while others are victorious could extend the gap to eight points. With six games left after this weekend, that could prove too much for SWFC to make up.
