One Ruled Out For Nets’ Vs. Dallas Through Injury

Nic Claxton, the center for the Nets, was ruled out due to a sprained left ankle, thus he won’t be playing Friday night in Dallas.

In Wednesday’s season-opening defeat to Cleveland, Claxton finished with seven points and seven rebounds.

Due to a strained glute, he also lost time during the preseason.

The Nets will probably go to Day’Ron Sharpe, who finished Wednesday with four points, two rebounds, and two blocked shots, in Claxton’s absence.

The Nets also declared on Thursday that they have activated Cam Thomas’ and Sharpe’s fourth-year club options.

After this season, both players are now qualified for rookie-scale contracts; Thomas will earn little more than $4 million in 2024–2025, while Sharpe will receive slightly less than $4 million.

While Sharpe probably needed to demonstrate his defense when he arrived at training camp, the decision to take up Thomas’ option was generally anticipated.

In 2021, Sharpe was taken 29th overall, while in 2021, Thomas was selected 27th overall.

When Thomas became the youngest player in NBA history to score 40 points or more in three consecutive games—during a time when the club was in transition after the trades of Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant—he displayed glimpses of his potential as a dominant scorer.

While the starting lineup struggled much of the time, Thomas led a second unit that kept the Nets in the game.

With 36 points on 13 of 21 shooting in the team’s one-point defeat in Brooklyn on Wednesday night, he is off to a good start to the season.
