Notts County have confirmed their decision to recall striker Junior Morias, following his loan spell with National League side Woking.
The 29-year-old has played a key role for both Dagenham & Redbridge and Woking in the National League this season, but has now been recalled by Stuart Maynard’s side, ahead of the play-off run in.
Maynard’s men suffered a narrow defeat against Paul Cook’s Chesterfield at the weekend and find themselves fifth in League Two with nine matches to play, though they are only two points shy of the automatic promotion places.
As confirmed via a statement on the club’s website, Notts County have recalled Morias to use him to bolster their attacking options moving into the final few games of the season.
Morias returns to Notts County
Due to forward Alassana Jatta being away on international duty next week and missing Notts’ clash with Crewe Alexandra, Morias has returned in order to aid their attacking options.
Fellow forward Mai Traore is also closing in on a return to the first-team squad following a stint on the sidelines.
EFL veteran David McGoldrick has been a key goal outlet for the Magpies this season, but Stuart Maynard’s side need to utilise all their attacking options if they are going to make the play-offs this season.
The club currently sit four points clear in the top seven, though the club have won just one of their last five league games and are in danger of missing out.
How did he fare at Woking?
After delivering a rocket for Dagenham during their FA Cup victory over AFC Wimbledon, Morias returned to Notts County before joining Woking on loan.
Woking are managed by former Notts County manager Neal Ardley and needed options to lift them out of a relegation-battle in the National League.
In total, the 29-year-old made seven appearances for the Cardinals, scoring twice with both goals coming against his former loan side (Dagenham).
What effect could this have on Woking?
Despite an upturn in form under Ardley, Woking still find themselves in a relegation battle, mainly due to the impressive form of sides below them.
Woking themselves are 18th in the National League, five points clear of the relegation zone and have won just one of their last six league matches.
The Cardinals themselves have an ongoing injury crisis with several players out injured, meaning the departure of Morias will come as an even bigger setback.
Woking travel to Wealdstone on Saturday before a challenging home fixture against in-form Halifax Town and also have an FA Trophy semi-final clash on the horizon.
