Nottingham Forest Tipped To Sign 25-Year-Old Norwich City Star

Nottingham Forest are among the clubs monitoring Norwich City striker Josh Sargent, with scouts reportedly sent to watch the United States international.

Forest scouts have reportedly been sent to watch Sargent in action, who is enjoying an extremely fruitful season infront of goal by returning 11 goals and counting from just 21 Championship appearances in Norwich’s bid for a play-off finish,

The Tricky Trees, meanwhile, are also reaping rewards in the Premier League, sitting in third position between Arsenal and Manchester City.

Sargent is poised to have a huge decision to make come the end of the season, especially if Norwich fail to gain promotion to the Premier League.

The 25-year-old, who also represents the United States on the international stage, has established himself among the finest forwards the Championship has to offer in recent times and surely will not be sticking around for a fourth season.

Norwich City claim made on Josh Sargent, Chris Wood similarities

With European football on the cards this season, Football League World asked Norwich City fan pundit Zeke Downes on Sargent’s rumoured transfer prospects in the East Midlands.

“I think it would be a good move because Nottingham Forest are only on the up now.” Downes told FLW. “Yes, they’ve obviously got Chris Wood but they’ll eventually want to replace him, and Sargent isn’t too different from him in the style of play.”

“Obviously he’s younger and quicker – but he holds up the ball as well as him and he’s a very good finisher as well. He’s tall, he wins headers, so he’s not too different. Only thing I’d say is Sargent is better at running in behind.”

“They’re going to need different options, especially if they’re playing Champions League – even if they’ve got Europa League, they’ll need another striker to help them out.”

“I wouldn’t say it’s a bad move – if anything I’d say it’s a good move – although Forest do play quite defensively overall so he might not get too many chances. Though, having Gibbs-White and Hudson-Odoi and Elanga, he should get a decent amount.”

On the logistics of the transfer, Downes said: “It’d have to be a decent bid, and they’ll probably have to sell one or two of their players to make that money up.”

Josh Sargent and Nottingham Forest’s next steps

With Nottingham Forest’s European ambitions in full swing, the potential signing of Josh Sargent could prove a shrewd piece of business.

His physicality, finishing ability, and versatility in attack align well with Forest’s need for depth behind Chris Wood, particularly if they find themselves competing on multiple fronts next season.

However, prying Sargent away from Norwich won’t come cheap. With his contract running until 2028 and his recent goalscoring form adding to his value, the Canaries will likely demand a significant fee – especially if they remain in contention for promotion.

The financial and strategic feasibility of such a deal may hinge on Forest’s final league position and their summer transfer budget.

For Sargent himself, the move presents both opportunity and risk. The allure of Premier League and potentially Champions League football is undeniable, yet he would have to compete fiercely for game time in a squad that doesn’t necessarily play to his attacking strengths.

If he can establish himself as a regular starter, however, it could mark the next big step in his career.

Ultimately, while Sargent’s playing style makes him an appealing target, Forest’s transfer approach and Norwich’s stance will dictate whether this speculation turns into a genuine summer move.
