Canaries’ boss Johannes Hoff Thorup confirmed after Saturday’s 1-0 win over West Brom, Doyle was ruled out with a calf problem.
But the 21-year-old, who had made 36 league appearances during his season long stay, has not returned to the Citizens and will complete his rehab at Colney as he looks to make the finale.
“He will be out for, I think, a handful of weeks. We scanned him, and he will not be available for the next four, five, six games,” said Thorup. “A calf injury, probably from the Bristol game, but in the following days after he felt something was not as it’s supposed to be. But hopefully he is back for the last part of the season.
“He’s with us. He’s in the building every day and we will do everything we can to see if we can get him fit for the last part of the season, probably two, three games, because, of course, we have to solve a situation here where we’re without a natural left full back.”
Promising youngster Lucien Mahovo sat out the Baggies’ win with a knee issue and is not expected to return until after Easter.
Thorup opted for a back three with the right-footed Kellen Fisher switched to a left wing back role, supported by Jose Cordoba, who flanked Shane Duffy along with Jacob Sorensen.
“That was important in terms of the game plan, because, with all due respect to Kellen, like I’ve said many times I think he’s doing well this season but we also saw from last time we played West Brom away that he struggled a little bit on his own against (Tom) Fellows, where he created some problems for us defensively,” said the City chief.
“We were quite clear that he needed a little bit more back up with Jose just behind him in that defensive line up or formation.
“That was one big part of that decision. And then, of course, obviously, we knew that offensively it would be a little bit different. There would be probably also some situations that were a little bit difficult for him, because he’s turned the wrong way, so to speak.”
