Dillon Brooks, who struggled with his shooting the previous two seasons, is now a productive offensive player for the Houston Rockets.
Dillon Brooks was acquired by the Houston Rockets in a sign-and-trade deal with the Memphis Grizzlies in July. Despite some people’s opinions that the Rockets overpaid him, he has played the first four games of his contract faithfully.
Although he is one of the five players for Houston who averages double figures in points (15.8), his shooting percentages have been particularly noteworthy. Brooks is ranked 14th in the league with a field goal percentage of 59.
This is really amazing since the players who often have the highest field goal percentages are those that shoot most of their shots from the paint. What really gets noticed, however, is that Brooks takes as many jump shots as he does while still shooting 59 percent.
In a podcast episode, former NBA player Gilbert Arenas discussed Brooks in more detail.
“I don’t know if anyone respects what Dillon brings,” Arenas said at his Gil’s Arena Podcast. “But as an offensive player, he’s bringing my A-game because I know that if I don’t bring my A-game and he shuts me down, I have to hear his mouth… There’s only a few players in the league that’s bringing out everyone’s A-game and he’s one of them.”
When the Rockets return to play on Saturday against the Sacramento Kings, Brooks will have another opportunity to demonstrate his efficacy on both ends. Kickoff is scheduled from the Toyota Center at 7 p.m. CDT.
