The Minnesota Timberwolves are fresh off a deep run in the 2024 NBA Playoffs, as they made it all the way to the Western Conference finals where they got eliminated by Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks.
With Anthony Edwards, the Timberwolves have a franchise cornerstone to build around, not to mention the continued presence in Minnesota of Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert.
This offseason, the Timberwolves have a chance to add more weapons to their roster, and for Will Eudy of Dinking With Wolves , Minnesota should address their point guard depth by signing Reggie Jackson.
Reggie Jackson as a Minnesota Timberwolves NBA free agency acquisition?
Jackson spent the last two seasons with the Denver Nuggets . The Nuggets traded him to the Charlotte Hornets earlier this month but is said to be expected to get waived, hence a potential opportunity for the Timberwolves to lure him to the Twin Cities.
If the Timberwolves are truly keeping their eyes and ears to the ground for suitable backup point guards, they should immediately jump at this opportunity upon hearing the news. Reggie is a 13-year league veteran, having played for four different NBA teams and playing a part in the Denver Nuggets’ championship run in 2023.
Signing Jackson to run Minnesota’s bench unit would solve a few problems. It would give them an experienced player who has been deep in the postseason, which will be valuable come playoff time. Reggie can also likely be signed on a vet minimum deal, which is basically the only type of contract the Timberwolves can offer at this point.
The Timberwolves have Mike Conley Jr. and rookie Rob Dillingham on the PG depth chart, but Jackson could still see significant minutes in Minnesota if he does end up with the team.
Last season, Jackson averaged 10.2 points and 3.8 assists through 82 games (23 starts).
