Miami Heat Newcomer Forward Out Vs. Pacers With Sprained Ankle

The Miami Heat will be without starting forward Andrew Wiggins for Friday night’s home game against the Indiana Pacers.

Wiggins will miss Friday’s contest at Kaseya Center because of a sprained right ankle that he sustained early in Wednesday’s win over the Atlanta Hawks. Wiggins played through the pain and was able to finish that game, recording 15 points on 3-of-9 shooting from the field and 1-of-5 shooting on threes, two rebounds, six assists and two steals in 29 minutes.

This marks the second game that Wiggins has missed since being dealt to the Heat in the Jimmy Butler trade on Feb. 6. He also missed the Heat’s Feb. 13 loss to the Dallas Mavericks because of a stomach illness.

Wiggins, 30, has averaged 17.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 37.2 percent from the field and 28.9 percent from three-point range over his first six appearances with the Heat since the trade.

While Wiggins is out, the Heat will have starting center Bam Adebayo available on Friday against the Pacers despite a right calf contusion. Adebayo was listed as questionable before the Heat announced he would play.

Along with missing Wiggins, the Heat will be without Josh Christopher (G League), Keshad Johnson (G League), Nikola Jovic (broken hand), Dru Smith (Achilles surgery) and Isaiah Stevens (G League) on Friday.

The Pacers listed RayJ Dennis (G League), Enrique Freeman (G League), Quenton Jackson (G League) and T.J. McConnell (right ankle sprain) as questionable for their matchup against the Heat. Indiana will be without Bennedict Mathurin (left wrist sprain) and Isaiah Jackson (right Achilles tear).

Following Friday’s matchup against the Pacers, the Heat is idle on Saturday before hosting the New York Knicks on Sunday and Washington Wizards on Monday in a back-to-back set at home.
