Mavs Convert Shooting Guard To A Two Way Contract

NBA clubs may now stow prospective talents in the NBA’s G League without having to give up a place on their regular season roster in recent years. Due to their two-way contracts, these athletes may alternate between playing for their NBA club and their G League affiliate.

However, they are only permitted to play a maximum of 50 games in the league, and therefore are not qualified for the playoffs. Teams look for players capable of being developed into valuable contributors, and with their most recent acquisition, the Dallas Mavericks are expecting to discover exactly that. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Mavs signed Dexter Dennis to a two-way deal and put him to their roster.

Dexter Dennis initially committed to a training camp contract with the Mavs; without that, he would not have been included on the roster for the season’s debut. Only AJ Lawson was signed to a two-way deal, leaving the Mavs with two of the three available spots. Now, Dennis will begin the Mavs’ regular season on their roster.

Dennis signed with the Mavs for NBA Summer League after going undrafted in the 2023 NBA Draft. He shot 42.4 percent from the field, 35.7 percent from three-point range, and 75 percent from the free throw line in four games, averaging 9.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 0.5 assists, and 1.0 steals per game.

With a field goal percentage of 33.3 percent, a three-point percentage of 42.9 percent, and a free throw percentage of 50 percent in four preseason games, Dennis averaged 3.5 points, 1.0 rebounds, and 0.2 assists per game.
