The Mariners have been one of the most active teams at the Trade Deadline so far as they kicked things off with a massive surprise trade, and then made a couple of bullpen moves. It can get a bit hard to keep track of everything, so what we wanted to do was put together a list that shows all the trades that the Mariners have made.

It’s more than just that though. We wanted to let you know what we thought about each of the trades and give you grades on each of them as well. It won’t be as in-depth as our breakdown of the Randy Arozarena trade was, instead providing a more condensed version of each one.

As more trades happen, we will continue to update the list. It sounds like the Mariners are still active in trade talks and are actively and aggressively pursuing more bats for their lineup, so hopefully this is a list that we have to update a couple of times. If any trade at all happens, you can find the information here. If anything BIG happens, we will provide a bigger breakdown like we did for Arozarena. Let’s get to it by looking at every trade the Mariners have made as the deadline approaches.

7/22 – Mariners trade Mike Baumann to San Francisco Giants for Cash

Mariners get cash for Mike Baumann

A rather small move, and one that had little impact on either team. He struggled for the Mariners, was traded to the Giants for an undisclosed cash amount, threw one outing for the Giants, and was hit hard and subsequently designated for assignment. If the Giants get nothing for him, it’ll be an odd look to give cash for one outing. It was a low-cost move for a potential bullpen piece, so not much risk by the Giants. The Mariners opened up a spot and got cash for it, so you can’t argue the move at all.

7/25 – Mariners trade Aidan Smith, Brody Hopkins, PTBNL to Tampa Bay Rays for Randy Arozarena

Randy Arozarena Trade

This was the big one, and the one that essentially kicked the Trade Deadline into high gear. While it wasn’t the first move, it was the first big move, and the Mariners seem to have done well in the deal. Arozarena has an impressive ceiling, and instantly improves the teams lineup. Tampa has an incredible scouting department, so you always wonder if they see something that your team hasn’t. For the time being, it seems like a great deal for the Mariners.

7/26 – Mariners trade Jonatan Clase and Jacob Sharp to Toronto Blue Jays for Yimi Garcia

Mariners acquire Yimi Garcia

This one is tough. I’ve long been a big Clase fan, and he is still young with all his year’s of control left. Sharp is the Mariners Low-A catcher in Modesto, and was an unranked prospect. As for Yimi Garcia, he is a rental and will be a Free Agent after this season. If he re-signs with the Mariners or has a lights out finish to 2024, then it’s huge for the Mariners. If not, this seems like a short-sighted move, even if it is to grab arguably the best reliever on the market.

7/26 – Mariners trade Ryne Stanek to New York Mets for Rhylan Thomas

Mariners Trade Stanek to Mets

I have to be honest on this one. I don’t quite understand the move here. If there are other things that happen and the Mariners bring someone else to their pen, then I’m all for it. For a pen that has been thin all season due to injuries, it seemed like they would’ve wanted to keep Stanek. Instead, they send him to the Mets for their 30th ranked prospect in Thomas. Stanek has a 7.94 ERA in July, so maybe the Mariners saw something there. I think the Mets still got the best of this deal.

Stay tuned, as we will continue to update this as more trade news comes out. Let’s hope that we need to update it a few more times, and that the Mariners stay active as the Deadline draws closer.
