Manager Reveals 21-Year-Old Would Return To Swindon To Determine The Severity Of His Injury To Secure His Future

Sean McGurk is set to have a scan after picking up a thigh injury whilst on loan at Yeovil Town.

Having joined The Glovers on loan in December, McGurk has impressed in the National League with two goals in eight appearances, including a stunning individual effort against Ebbsfleet United.

However, since January he has struggled with some injury issues, leading to him starting on the bench against Halifax Town last weekend, before coming on as a substitute in the 68th minute, but limped off 13 minutes later holding his thigh.

After the match, manager Mark Cooper said that the 21-year-old would have to return to Swindon to determine the severity of his injury and hinted that he may have to look elsewhere for attacking options.

When asked what had happened, Ian Holloway said: “He has come back and we saw him the other day, little McGurks.

“We had a scan on it and we have not got the results back yet, but it was nice to see him.

“I am not au fait with that [whether he will not go back to Yeovil], I am not sure where we are with that.

“I will not know until the scan comes back and Coops probably won’t either.”

With his contract at Swindon expiring at the end of the season, this is a pivotal couple of months for McGurk to secure his future, either at the Nigel Eady County Ground or elsewhere.

Since arriving at Swindon last January, the former Leeds United forward has shown flashes of brilliance but been unable to lock down a consistent place under Gavin Gunning, Mark Kennedy, and Holloway.

Having initially been very excited by what McGurk had shown him with his skill, Holloway said that he had told him what he needed to see in order for the forward to get back into his team.

Before saying in January that he had been very pleased by what McGurk had shown since joining Yeovil and the drive he had shown to get better.

He said: “If you go and play and go and show people what you can do, then things might get better for you, like Sean McGurk has done.

“He is opening up a whole can of worms for himself by agreeing and thinking ‘I don’t care if it is Yeovil, I will go and show you what I can do’ and that is a wonderful thing to do.”
