Leeds United co-owner Jordan Spieth has a message for golfing rival Rory McIlroy ahead of next month’s Masters tournament.
Spieth will be part of the 92-player field that aims to win the Green Jacket at Augusta National in Georgia next month. McIlroy will also be in the tournament, as will Justin Thomas, another minority shareholder in Leeds.
It was back in July 2023 that both Spieth and Thomas confirmed they were part of the consortium led by, 49ers Enterprises, the owners of NFL franchise San Francisco 49ers, in the takeover of Leeds.
The American duo were eventually confirmed as minority investors into the club, along with fellow golf professional Rickie Fowler.
The world’s best golfers will descend on Augusta National next month, looking to win the Masters, which is traditionally the first major of the year.
Spieth has won the tournament once in his career, back in 2015, something which is yet to happen for McIlroy and has been a topic of discussion in the build-up to the Masters over the last decade.
Spieth has issued a message to McIlroy in the build-up to the Masters, which begins on April 10. The message from Spieth comes after McIlroy, who supports Manchester United, won the Players’ Tournament earlier this week.
“Augusta’s just blown up more than it probably should be,” Spieth told reporters this week. “In that sense, it gets blown up towards Rory [McIlroy].
“Majors are majors. Augusta’s — you know, if you look at the field, it’s technically the easiest major to win, so the more I think someone focuses on that, the better.”
The Whites’ co-owner will be hoping to secure a second Masters title next month.
