Latest Minnesota Vikings 2024 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Previewing the Jets' opposition: Minnesota Vikings - Gang Green Nation

This series will be your guide to the 2024 draft class. From scouting reports to mock drafts and exploring different scenarios, we will be covering the NFL draft and the future of the Minnesota Vikings from all angles.

The focus of the draft class in this space will be on the Vikings’ major needs at quarterback, running back, defensive line and edge rusher. We will also focus on wide receiver since it’s a loaded class and an increased chance to get a Stefon Diggs-type steal in the later rounds.

Traits and Skills

Kalen King has the athleticism to be an NFL cornerback, he just has to find consistency with it. Once he unlocks that ability he will be able to be a consistent starter. This trait is his best bet to finding an everlasting NFL career.

Whether it be back peddling or if he is making a cut on the ball or a ball carrier, his footwork is a lot of fun to watch. The Manny Diaz defense he played in relied on zone coverage a ton making his twitchy and clean footwork that much more critical to finding what success he had.

Tackling and Effort

We talked about the Manny Diaz defense he played in, the biggest thing he asks of his cornerbacks is to tackle. A lot of NFL teams are looking for corners that can tackle more reliably and he can do that with the best of them in the college football landscape.

Fit within the Vikings Roster

Kalen King is a hard one to figure out, especially after the 2023 tape. In 2022, he looked like he could be any team’s starting corner in the NFL; in 2023, he looked lost at times. The Manny Diaz Penn State defense showcases and relies on its corners, but it doesn’t give the best direction. Brian Flores could be the right thing for King but he is going to have to earn every single snap of football he plays in 2024.
