According to a source, the Knicks will change Dylan Windler’s two-way contract to a conventional one, according to Keith Smith of Spotrac (Twitter link). According to Fred Katz of The Athletic, the deal is non-guaranteed and lasts for one season.

After playing his first four NBA seasons with the Cavaliers, the small forward, now 27 years old, signed with New York in July. Windler became an unrestricted free agent this summer as a result of Cleveland’s decision to forego offering him a qualifying offer.

With the 26th overall choice in the 2019 lottery, the Cavaliers picked Windler, but he missed his rookie season due to a leg injury and was never able to establish a reliable role. In 84 games, he averaged 3.3 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 0.8 assists. He missed much of that time due to injury, playing in only three games the previous year.
After being given a roster slot, Windler will get an opportunity to relaunch his career in New York. He only played in one preseason game, finishing scoreless in around six minutes of action, but his performance in practice persuaded club management to take a risk on him.
There are currently 15 players on standard contracts with the Knicks, including non-guaranteed contracts for DaQuan Jeffries and Ryan Arcidiacono. After converting Charlie Brown and Jacob Toppin to two-way contracts earlier today, the club also has a two-way vacancy.
