Philippe Clement has confirmed that injury-hit striker Kemar Roofe faces yet another spell on the sidelines.
Roofe was an unused sub in Saturday’s 4-0 win over Hibs but missed last night’s goalless Europa League draw away to Sparta Prague. And Clement says the luckless 30-year-old – who has been plagued by injuries throughout his Ibrox career – won’t be available for Sunday’s visit of Hearts. Neither will Tom Lawrence or Dujon Sterling, while Borna Barisic’s fitness will be monitored over the coming days.
Speaking at this morning’s press conference, Rangers boss Clement said: “Kemar will not be available for the weekend. We first need to make a really good assessment how to bring Kemar back in a way that he can be a long time back and not a short time because that has been the case the last couple of months, to get him fit for games but then in between struggling.
“Borna we will see if he can train tomorrow or not. That’s still a question mark. Cifuentes will hopefully train tomorrow with the team – Tom Lawrence and Dujon Sterling will not be available.
“Danilo has been out for a while and not played 90 minutes for a long time – he looked bright and we need to focus on making him stronger. It is a work in progress.
“We need to work hard in the coming weeks and months to see what we need to do in January. With injuries, you need to find solutions but we had players who were able to step in and that is what I expect.
“We are going to work hard with the players around fitness, recovery, lifestyle and what they do technically. We have done analysis on yesterday’s game and we are building something together.
“We need time, we need hard work, concentration and focus over the next weeks and months. With the right players and right focus, we can make it a good season.”
